Search my Palm PDA's memo entries

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

Is there any software that can search entries in my Palm Vx's memo entries?

This would also be ideal if one can look for addresses based on some info the user plugs in.

    TIA

I always look at Palm Boulevard and PalmGear for these kinds of programs.

I also do go to these main PDA sites, but I may not have used the right search to find the two that you did. I will check them, and tell you how they work for me.

    Thanks again.

What do you sync with on your desktop machine? I use Outlook as my main data store, and the Palm is always a replica of it. Just curious, because I have never run into this specific issue but I think Outlook could probably search for the info you need, even if it required a little scripting to complete.

I don't recall what's available on the Palm Vx itself, but I thought you could search with the the standard software (the magifying glass). You may need to enable a function to search with more detail.

But AFAIK the magnifying glass is very limited. If you can dig what you have of this option, I would be greatful.

I need to search for URLs that I place in a memo and possibly an address in a quicky, simple stuff but beyond the glass I think.

I was looking for something to use on the PDA without the PC. I use the Palm software to sync, and it can help in searches, but then when you are out and about, and need to search....

    Can't run to the PC <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

It's also my experience that the Palm Search Tool doesn't seem to search through all data sources, so I understood why Wassim was looking. I'd love to know how, if the native Search Tool can be improved.

hmmm... I was just going from memory when I used to have a Palm supplied by work (different position, no longer required). I'll check with the new guy, see what he has (if anything).

I too am glad he WAS looking and you replied, John! I've been "meaning" to find a plugin myself for quite some time and have been too busy (lazy?) to take the time. I downloaded and installed the first of your choices (IntelligentFind) - more $ must be better, huh? I just tried a few typical searches and it seems OK except I'll have to see if I can change its options to list the hits by date. Wassim, have you tried one of 'em yet?

Re: Search my Palm PDA's memo entries

Al! You went for the $15 IntelligentFind over the $7 Palm-Search? Man, you IBM retiress all make out like bandits! <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15>

But seriously, with all the plug-ins, what kind of memory footprint does IntelligentFind use? And Wassim, if you tried Palm-Search, how much memory does it use? I have a prejudice for using Palm software with the smallest memory footprint.

Re: Search my Palm PDA's memo entries

John, I have a Palm 515m and I don't even remember how much memory the thing is supposed to have (native). But the Info screen says I have 14.8M free out of 15.7M. The only "big hitter" extras that I have on mine are a financial calculator (C4) using 554K and the IntelligentFind at 240K. I also have another calculator (MathLib) using 50K and the rest of the stuff shows all to be peanuts. I "only" have about 150 address book entries and just under 500 calendar events, so I'm on easy street, but then, I'm a retired flunky!
