XP Can't Shut Down or Restart (Home 2002 SP-1)

With DSL, I don't turn my computer off at the end of each day (session) as I used to. Just noticed
that I can't do a "soft reboot" (With the Start Button/Shutdown/Restart or Turn Off). I have to use the
power button (probably should do double CTRL-ALT-DEL next time, eh?)

I recently ran Cleandisk, Defrag, Checkdisk with no problems.

Does anything at all happen when you try to shut down? You might also want to check the ideas I mentioned in this similar thread.

    Tal,

You might want to try Windows Troubleshooter.
    Click>Start>Help & Support>Fixing a Problem>Startup & Shutdown Problems>Startup & Shutdown Troubleshooter.
It will take you through a number of potential problem areas, including Video Card, Sound Card, Network, Drivers, etc. etc.
Some of which you wouldn't think of as being able to cause a shutdown problem.
    Give it a shot.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!
