    Table columns (Word 2000)

Hi - I'm trying to create a table that has fixed columns, but as soon as I type in a word that is wider than the column, the column expands to accommodate the word. Is there any way I can fix the width of a column please? <img src=/S/disappointed.gif border=0 alt=disappointed width=15 height=15>

With the insertion point somewhere in the table, select Table | Table Properties...
In the Table tab, click Options...
Clear the check box labeled "Automatically resize to fit contents".
    Click OK (twice)

    Re: Table columns (Word 2000)

By the way, since this is the default behavior for tables (i.e. automatically resize to fit contents), you might want to make tables with 2 rows & 2, 3, etc. columns, formatted the way you want them. Then save them as autotext entries with names like t2, t3, etc.. Then when you want a table, just type t3, for example, & press F3.
    Cheers,
