    Download Counter (2002)

I have a download button on my website. What I would like to do is have a download counter next to this button showing how many times a download has taken place. Is this possible? And if so how would I go about it?

Any comment or advice gratefully received.

Are you using any kind of database or scripting technology on the back end, or static HTML? You could either track it in a database table, or script an event that would increase a counter (although I have never tried that method).

There is a Javascript method here at tech.irt.org and a relatively cheap off-the-shelf solution here at soft411.com.

Personally, I'd cheat and take the downloader to a new page with a hidden hit-counter....
