    Software to Burn CDs

-=Mods feel free to move the post to the Hardware board if more appropriate=-

    Hi all,

I just purchased a SONY CD-RW CRX230E5 drive. I know nil about hardware, all I know is it's a plug-and-play device. Now the question: which burning software do you recommend? Are there any compatibility issues between hard & soft? As you see it's a new world for me.

    I appreciate any input

    Re: Software to Burn CDs

    Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the linked reference. In one of the posts jrclen says:
<hr>[...]my burner came with OEM 4 and a floppy that was supposed to make it recognise the drive. The testing software from Ahead and another Ahead program did recognise the drive but not the burning software itself.<hr>
And that's what I tried to mean by incompatibility issues". A friend of mine had the same problem and I was wondering whether that'd happen to me too...
I tried searching the web for information, I tried Sony's site but it's really poor. After reading this thread, I went to Ahead's site only to find out that my CD recorder is not supported (unless they've ommitted it, but I'm not willing to run the risk).
I'll go check out Roxio's site and the units they support.

    Thank you

    Re: Software to Burn CDs

FWIW I have yet to hear unqualified satisfaction with Roxio CD burners. I have heard a number of strong expressions of dissatisfaction with Roxio.

    Re: Software to Burn CDs

    Alright, esmo!!!

This one seemingly does support my CD-RW unit!!! It's <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> <img src=/S/exclamation.gif border=0 alt=exclamation width=15 height=15> And less than 2MB!! I'm downloading, all I want to do right now is test whether the recorder functions normally. There'll be some time to search for better software (in case it can be topped)

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Software to Burn CDs

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately my device doesn't appear on their list either, so I won't be looking much further into Roxio, but it's good to hear your opinion.

    Re: Software to Burn CDs

I feel I must put in a good word for Roxio - have used Easy CD Creator for several years, on 3 different CD burners and now on a DVD burner, and from Windows Me to XP Pro, mainly for data but for some music, and have yet to have a problem (hope that I am not tempting the Fates!)

Re: Software to Burn CDs FYI tag-along program

Just as an FYI for those trying out Burn4Free mentioned above.. I did and noticed that it came with NavHelp - a program I don't want nor need..
I installed Burn4Free and then immediately uninstalled NavHelp from my control panel, rebooted and then ran Ad-Aware..
What do you know?? NavHelp didn't show as running, but did leave a bunch (10 or so) registry entries that Ad-Aware politely recommended I delete.. which I did..
Burn4Free kept on working flawlessly on my system (winME, 384 megs ram, HP9300,1.0c rw drive).
A great addition to my freeware library..

Re: Software to Burn CDs FYI tag-along program

Thanks Bob. I'll check it out.

I have a question regarding audio burning: Burn4Free seems to convert audio files to a certain format before burning the CD. The question is, should this conversion take place even when my files already are in the WAV format? I thought the soft would burn straightforwardly and that's why I had made the conversion to WAV myself beforehand... Someone who has tried other burning clients could answer this one.

    Thanks!

Edited by WyllyWylly to add URL tag. See the markup help. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Try Burn4free. It works well for me and the author is helpful with problems.
