IEXPLORE APPLICATION ERROR (WIN XP HOME)

A friend has been getting the following error message: IEXPLORE.EXE - Application Error. The instruction at "0x00f32e24" referenced memory at "0x0116c4b0". The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.

Can anyone help me figure out what this is about. Thanks.

Now I have discovered that when you click on OK to terminate the program on the Error Message - he gets another Error Message that reads as follows: IEXPLORE.EXE Application Error. The Instruction at "0x020a3770" referenced memory at "0x020a3770". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. When he clicks on OK - nothing happens - cannot get rid of the window with the Error Message. Can still do things but the Error Window stays on top of all other windows.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

May I assume this occurs at only a select few web sites? It could be a problem with an ActiveX control or Java applet. If you post some trouble URLs we might be able to pin it down.

Actually it occured for me when I was not even on the internet. I had run CHKDSK and DEFRAG and suddenly the error message popped up. There is some program trying "to call home" as the connection manager comes up constantly. The kids have been sharing files with bearshare and gnutella.

Ah yes, the p2p software strikes again. Better to have that only on computers you don't care about so when the RIAA comes knocking, you don't lose your main machine. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
