    MS Optic Mouse 2.0

I picked up the set (keyboard/mouse) the end of December, 2003. It worked great and I fell in love with them. About 1 week ago, my cursor would freeze maybe once a day and nothing I could do would stop it. The only way to get control of anything was to do an illegal shut down. (Just turn off the machine) Then bring it back up. It started getting worse and worse until it was to the point that my cursor froze all the time. I emailed MS and, of course, have never heard anything from them.

Tonight I uninstalled both keyboard and mouse, then reinstalled them. As of right now everything is working fine. No freezing.

To me this sounds like a hardware conflict somewhere and have checked everything I could to find the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to help???

Sounds strange but you could try lifting and holding the mouse up in the air for a fair number of seconds. Also, how much static are you generating at your workstation? Do you have rubber soles on your shoes? Even with a wooden floor, it sometimes helps to take any rubber-soled footwear off. HTH

I will try holding it in the air for a few min, but what will that do? I am on carpet and am either barefoot or in my houseslippers. Haven't noticed any static.

I'm freezing again, I now have a regular mouse hooked up too and with it I can safely reboot the computer.

In very broad "layman's" terms, the mouse tends to end up receiving too much current. I would suggest grounding yourself regularly and using bare feet. Holding the mouse in the air gets a bit tiresome. HTH

Is this a USB mouse? If, so can you plug it ito a different USB Port?
Have you checked into Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts shown with a yellow flag?
Checked all of the mouse properties in Control Panel?
    Looked for updated drivers?
Made any system changes just before the problem started?

If the new port doesn't work, get a new mouse.
    They DO go bad, yours unfortunately had a short life span. <img src=/S/disappointed.gif border=0 alt=disappointed width=15 height=15>
They are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.
