    pcAnywhere

    Hi, All ~

Would like to know if any Loungers have had any experience in being able to take a group of remote and host settings from one computer to another w/ pcAnywhere, if even at all possible, to avoid re-keying a large amount of set-up data.

    Re: pcAnywhere

Never have done it, but you might try the Data Conversion Menu (at least in 9.0), export to a text file, then import the connection items to the new pc??

    Hi, Mike ~

Using version 11.0.1 and do not see what would be a data conversion tool or anything simliar. Would you please point to where I might find this?

I haven't used PCAnywhere in a long time, but in (9.2, I thought it was 9.0), there is a data conversion on the tools menu. Not sure if it exists in 11.0, or maybe it's in a different place??

From the PCAnywhere help concerning conversion:

    ---------------------------------------------------
    To use data conversion:

1 Choose Data Conversion from the Tools menu.

2 Select the data conversion feature you want to run.

3 Follow the Data Conversion Wizard

    Hi, Mike ~

Unfortunately there is no 'Data Conversion' in the tools or elsewhere of pcA 10.5 or 11.X. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Re: pcAnywhere

In my PCAnywhere folder I have a folder named CMS. It appears that this folder contains individual host and remote control files/settings for each of the connection items. Clicking on these files directly originates either a host connection or remote connection (you can also shortcut to these files using the startup folder, etc without going through the front door so to speak).

I don't suppose that you would be so fortunate as being able to copy this folder from the original PCAnywhere folder to each of the remote PCAnywhere folders that you wish to duplicate?? That is if your version even has a separate folder with the connection information.

Seems like if you could find where the connection info is stored in your version, it would be possible to copy the individual connection files or the directory, although the modem settings would have to be the same if you copied the directory...I would not think that it is dll dependent or otherwise registry dependent, only within the PCAnywhere installation. Make sense??

Edited by me: Forgot to add the attachment!

    Re: pcAnywhere

For the sake of others, answering my own post regarding pcAnywhere settings and copying to another computer :

The pcAnywhere data, including connection items & caller information files, are stored in either a Data folder or within the pcAnywhere folder itself, depending on your version of pcAnywhere. Once installed/reinstalled/upgraded, copy the contents into the new data location for pcAnywhere.

The location of the pcAnywhere data depends on the version and/or OS. The following are the default locations for the pcAnywhere data by version and platform:

    <table width="100%" border="1"><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere versions</td><td >Platforms</td><td >Default data location</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcANYWHERE32 7.x and 8.x </td><td >all platforms</td><td >C:Program FilespcANYWHEREData</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 9.0 </td><td >all platforms</td><td >C:Program FilesSymantecpcAnywhereData</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 9.2 </td><td >Windows 9x:</td><td >C:WindowsAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 9.2 </td><td >Windows NT 4.0</td><td >C:WinNTprofilesAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere </td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 9.2</td><td >Windows 2000</td><td >Cocuments and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 10.x or 11.0 </td><td > Windows 9x</td><td >C:WindowsAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 10.x or 11.0 </td><td >Windows NT 4.0</td><td >C:WinNTprofilesAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere</td></tr><tr valign="top"><td >pcAnywhere 10.x or 11.0 </td><td >Windows 2000/XP</td><td >Cocuments and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSymantecpcAnywhere</td></tr></table>
Note: If you upgraded to pcAnywhere 9.2 by downloading/installing the 92up.exe file, then the path to the pcAnywhere data folder will conform to the path for pcAnywhere 9.0:

    Bruce,

Don't know if this will help, but search for "data conversion" in the Symantec pcAnywhere Knowledge Base and then go to the 3rd page of results.

I believe that the Asterisk Fairy is adding them to her collection, and so she is harvesting them from your subject lines. She is a tidy sort of fairy who hates flamboyance, so it is lucky you have not yet made her cross...
