    Web Form in word (XP 2002)

    I have created a web form in word that is published on our intranet. The submit button sends me and email with the results which I will later transfer to a spreadsheet. When I get the message some of the replies don't go on the next line, i.e. instead of

    Name=hhhhhhhh
    Course=jhhjhj jhjh jhj hjjh jh
    Gain=kjlk j kj lkj lkjkj klj kjlk lkj kjkljl k lkjklj lkkjk kljkj kjlkj j klklkjk jkj lkl kljk
    Comments=kllkk kjklj kljk lkj kj k kjk kkkk klj kjkl klklj kj kjljklj lkjkljlkjlk kljkljlkklj lkjkljkljkl lk lkkljlkjkljl kj
    Notes=kjjkl jj lkjkjlkj lkjkl lkj lkjkljkl lkjlk ljlkkklkl kj

    I get

    Name=hhhhhhhh
    Course=jhhjhj jhjh jhj hjjh jh
    Gain=kjlk j kj lkj lkjkj klj kjlk lkj kjkljl k lkjklj lk kjk kljkj kjlkj j klklkjk jkj lkl kljk Comments=kllkk kjklj kljk lkj kj k kjk kkkk klj kjkl klk
    lj kj kjljklj lkjkljlkjlk kljkljlkklj lkjkljkljkl lk lkkljlkjkljl kj Notes=ksjd sldflsjflsjflksjdfks sjdfkf sflk sdfjlskdf skdjs d

    Any ideas?

    I'm not familiar with web forms created in Word. What is the method used to compose the e-mail when the user submits the information? Is it using FrontPage extensions, calling an ASP page, etc.?

    You can just use a mailto property on the submit button

    Can you post a a link to a sample page that has the problem (or post it in a zip file)? It seems that you should get consistent results: all wrapped or all with line breaks. I vaguely remember that it's quite difficult to insert line breaks using mailto links, so I'm curious why some seem to work and some don't.

    I'm afraid its on an intranet so you won't be able to access it so here is the page.

    Sorry, it was silly of me, but it won't let me attch it due to the maximum size of allowed files. i can easily email it to you if you want to send to send your address to michelle.eames@warwickdc.gov.uk

    Can you zip the file? If the size of the zip file is still over 100 KB, try to strip items not necessary to illustrate the problem from the file.

    I downloaded the file, changed the e-mail address in the source to my own, then filled in the form and submitted it. The e-mail I received looked OK - each item started on a new line (I tried both single-line and multi-line replies.)

    Are there special circumstances in which the problem occurs?

    Re: Web Form in word (XP 2002)

    I edited the HTML to make it less Word-y ( <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> ) and I tested it and it worked as expected. I then changed my mail format in Outlook from plain text to HTML, and it worked again, although the message came as plain text. Same result changing to Rich Text. I restarted Outlook, but no change, still got plain text lined up as expected.

    So, what does this mean? Honestly, I didn't realize you could POST to a mailto address, so I have no knowledge of any of the problems this could cause. A few questions:

    (1) Is MS Outlook your default e-mail program in IE (Tools>Internet Options...>Programs tab)?

    (2) If the answer to (1) is Yes, do you use Outlook or Word as your mail editor? I tested only with the Outlook editor.
