Receiving emails as a .msg attachment (Outlook 2000 SP-3)

Can anyone tell me why I would receive emails as a .msg attachment when the users (many of them) do not send them that way? Thanks for any advice you can give.

What ISP are you using and what ISP are these coming from?

My ISP is Network Synergy in Trumbull, CT. The majority of them come from AOL and web based emails (e.g. - Yahoo and Hotmail), but a small number do come through from other ISPs like Earthlink.

What do these files look like when you get them?
    Can you open them?
    If so how?
What program is being used when they are open?

Re: Receiving emails as a .msg attachment (Outlook 2000 SP-3)

I'm using Outlook 2000. The email comes in with a .msg attachment. When I open the attachment by double clicking on it, it contains the original email as the sender sent it. Sometimes it's just a plain text message. Sometimes it's a message with other attachments. I can find no rhyme or reason to it. There's no specific patterns of content, subjects, attachment, etc that I can see. It happens to about fifty to a hundred of the emails that come to our company every day.

I find I get 'Forwarded' emails from Hotmail accounts as attachments. Are any of these original messages, as opposed to replies/forwards?

I get a good blend of forwards, replies and originals.
