Who was in a file (97)

Is there a way to see who changed an Excel spreadsheet? The spreadsheet does not have the share feature turned on.

    Thanks!

Not sure this is in XL 97, but in 2000 you can see File | Properties | Statistics | Last Saved By.

There are utilities that will allow you to see the Metadata of the MS-Office files. The Metadata contains a list of revisions in order from the author going all the way to the last.

    Here is an example:

    Rev. #1: "cic22" edited file "COCUME~1phamillLOCALS~1TempAutoRecovery save of Iraq - security.asd"
    Rev. #2: "cic22" edited file "COCUME~1phamillLOCALS~1TempAutoRecovery save of Iraq - security.asd"
    Rev. #3: "cic22" edited file "COCUME~1phamillLOCALS~1TempAutoRecovery save of Iraq - security.asd"
    Rev. #4: "JPratt" edited file "C:TEMPIraq - security.doc"
    Rev. #5: "JPratt" edited file "A:Iraq - security.doc"
    Rev. #6: "ablackshaw" edited file "C:ABlackshawIraq - security.doc"
    Rev. #7: "ablackshaw" edited file "C:ABlackshawA;Iraq - security.doc"
    Rev. #8: "ablackshaw" edited file "A:Iraq - security.doc"
    Rev. #9: "MKhan" edited file "C:TEMPIraq - security.doc"
Rev. #10: "MKhan" edited file "C:WINNTProfilesmkhanDesktopIraq.doc"

By the way, this is the information that got Mr. Tony Blair PM of the UK, in trouble over the Iraq scandal. You can read how the Metadata was used by going to this web page

If you are interested in viewing the Metadata of MS-Office files, let me know and I'll send you a URL that will give you a utility to do that.
