For no reason I can establish, I cannot get Excel to startup. Until now, I've used it everyday for as long as I can remember.

When I click the icon or double click an xls file, the Excel startup logo is presented and that's where the system hangs - nothing to do but reboot.

I'm using Office 2000. I have unistalled and reinstalled twice. EVERY other program on my system works fine including other MS Office progs, but Excel still insists on locking up my system when I try to start it up.

Anyone ever seen this or have any ideas? Please?

Do you have any files in the Xlstart folder? They may be corrupt.

Reinstalling does not cure all problems.

Lucky shot:
Start|Run: excel /regserver
This will re-write all registry entries, something a reinstall w/o the appropriate switches will not do.

Slow but sure:
- Download and apply the Eraser Tool 2000 from Microsoft to get rid of all left-overs of an uninstall.
- Clear Temp dir
- Re-install Office 2000

The total wash and reinstall did the trick. IT's amazing that normal uninstall routines do not really uninstall everything associated with the program.
