Copying Excel data into Word Tables

We have been importing Excel data up to now into Tables in Word Perfect using an import command and specifying the cells to be copied into a pre formatted Table. The Table format was preserved and it was very quick. We have changed to Word and set up similar Tables however there does not appear to be an analogous way to do this. Linking and embedding would be time consuming as there are a large number of Tables. Does anyone know a way to transfer numerical data across (copy and paste does results in all data being placed in a single cell)?

Graeme, are you able to format the cells in excel the same as they are in Word??? If yes you can then copy and paste, but not into a table - just into a blank spot. The formatting from Excel will remain. <img src=/S/lightbulb.gif border=0 alt=lightbulb width=15 height=15>

You should be able to paste the Excel data into a Word table, without it all going into one cell: create a Word table that has the same number of columns and rows corresponding to the data in Excel.
Then select the rows and columns of the Word table, but take care not to select the end of row markers. When you Paste, the Excel data should go into separate cells (I'm trying this on Word 2000 right now, but this should work similarly in Word 97).
