Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel2k3)

Excel 2K and Excel XP had a menu item
File -> Send To -> Mail Recipient (as Attachment)
when Mozilla was installed as the main mail client.

This menu item does not show up any more in Excel 2K3.
Is there a way of activating it again?

It shows up on my installation. Are you using Full View Menus?

    Is it really launching Mozilla.
Or do you have Outlook installed also?
I do not install Outlook on any of my machines.

To split hairs: it is launching Mozilla Thunderbird. Have you set Mozilla as your default mail client? Does it show as such under Control Panel|Internet Options|Programs|E-mail?

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

Yes, Mozilla mail shows up as my email client.
And the menu item is available in ExcelXP which I also
have installed on the same machine. That is the strange thing.
I tried to create a Mail toolbar using t
    Tools->Customize->Commands->File->Mail Recipient,
and this button is greyed out.

On the basis that you did a migration/u[pgrade, try running the Office 2003 install routine again but going through all the sub-options to enure that all the options you require are indeed checked. It that yields nothing, could you try exporting the Registry Key My ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClientsMailMozil la, changing the extension frrom REG to TXT and attaching it to your next post. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClients]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClientsMail]
    @="Mozilla"

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

I was actually referring to the attached key. Do you have anything like that? Naturally, your file paths should be different and the references should be to mozilla.exe.

Edited to add: Try adding a second String Value to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClientsMailMozillaprotoc olsmailto] called URL Protocol with no value. See the equivalent OE and Hotmail values for examples. Do not add an EditFlags Value.

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

I checked, I have all these keys but one.
The last one in the following paragraph.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClientsMailMozilla ThunderbirdProtocolsmailto]
    @="URL:MailTo Protocol"
    "URL Protocol"=""

So I added it manually, but that did not help.
    This is really strange.
As you suggested, I also did a repair installation of Office2003 before I did this

    Thanks for all your time.

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

Presumably, you did try "Mozilla" and not "Mozilla Thunderbird". The key you mention should read as follows:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClientsMailMozillaprotoc olsmailto]
    @="URL:MailTo Protocol"
    "URL Protocol"=""

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

Yes, I did it with just "Mozilla".
The mail contained the 3 lines I copied from your email,
llustrating what was "missing" in my registry.

Re: Sending email with Mozilla and Excel2k3 (Excel

You said that you have Excel XP installed on the same machine - without experiencing this problem. Have you tried exporting the Registry keys for MAPI (as above) on the Excel XP boot and importing them to the Excel 2003 boot? If you are on WinXP, you would need to set a Restore Point. If not, you would have to back up the Registry. HTH
