Word to .pdf adds black line (Windows 2000/Office 2000)

When I created a .pdf file from a Word document containing illustrations, the .pdf file, when viewed, showed some of the illustrations with a black line beside them. This line does not show at all in the Word document. The illustrations are inserted .jpg's. Any idea where in Word I could look to get rid of these "invisible" lines? Thanks for any help.

Is "Track Changes" on in your Word document, by any chance? I believe a vertical line in the margin (if that's where the line is) may indicate a "format" change involving the graphic. Updating fields (e.g., INCLUDEPICTURE or EMBED MSPaint) might cause a format change.

The other thought is just that anything but a 100% view in the Acrobat Reader is not necessarily accurate...

What software was used to make this "pdf" file?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I must 'fess up. I retired from the office, but they still call me for problems they have. This was one of them that I couldn't answer and I'm not there to poke around in the file myself. It is classified, so I can't be sent a copy of it. I assume (without first asking them) that the make .pdf button was pushed in Word. The computers there have Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat 5.
