New gimmick in Word? (WXP, Office 2003)

I'm just curious about what appears to be a new feature in Word.

I just loaded Office 2003 and have been exploring the various new features of Word. One significant difference from Word 2000 seems to be how Word 2003 functions when you select a block of text and then press Delete. In Word 2000 it deleted it. In Word 2002 a "Delete Block Yes/No?" message pops up down on the Status bar.

Is this a new feature? Can it be turned off? Personally I prefer the older method as the new one takes yet another unneeded keystroke.

This is related to the special help features for WordPerfect users, and has been in Word since at least Word 97. Do you remember turning it on during your experiments?

I certainly don't remember turning any such feature on, and I would love to hear how to turn it off.

Look under Tools>Options...>General tab and see whether those WP options make a difference.

Aha! Unchecking "Navagation keys for Word Perfect users" did it.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I discovered one other thing: You get the 'Delete Block Yes/No?" bit If you have either "help for Word Perfect users" OR "Navigation keys for Word Perfect users" checked under Tools Options General.
