# Thread: Selecting data in an array (2000 SR-1)

1. ## Selecting data in an array (2000 SR-1)

All,

I have a table 11 columns wide and 5 rows tall with data in each cell. Through a combinations of radio button selections, an "X" will appear above one of the columns. I wish the data in that column to be mirrored in the 12th column. Previously, I have been able to do this using nested IF functions, but I am limited to seven columns using that technique.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? TIA, Douglas

Use INDEX(List,value)

It's a little more complex than that. Right now, I have 3 different radio buttons selecting among seven different products and two different sets of options that are available on some of the products. I think your suggestion might work if I made one radio button choose between all of the different combinations. I was hoping to find someway of recognizing which column the "X" was in and then use that reference to copy data to my target column.

Which INDEX function were you speaking of? The "array" or "reference"?

TIA, Douglas

Thanks, Steve. That did the trick. You guys are a great resource.

Assume your "row" with 1 "X" is A1:H1
Your list of values is in A2:H2
Then:

=INDEX(A2:H2,MATCH("X",\$A\$1:\$H\$1,0))

Will be the result of the value with in row 2 in the column marked with "X". You can copy this down the column to get values for the other rows. Change the ranges as appropriate.
