Quality of XP Firewall (XP Home)

OK at the risk of all you fine loungers birsting into gales of uncontrollable laughter, can you advise as to how good or effective or otherwise the built-in Firewall is in XP Home?

Considering Microsoft's past ventures into new areas, dating back to its abortive compression facllity way back in DOS 6.2, I would expect it to be very 'lite' and basic, but thought I'd ask anyway.

    Thanks for your advice.

The current version shipped with XP is better that none.

I would turn it off and install ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> version is all you need.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Thanks Dave.

Would you recommend ZoneAlarm over Kerio?

Do not know any thing about Kerio, do you have a link to it?

Anyway you look at it - get a real firewall - the one that comes with XP will not block any OUTGOING traffic. That's important because webbugs, viruses, and other malware often send data "home" - data like your contacts, IP, passwords, keyboard strokes, etc. ZoneAlarm will yell at you if some app is trying to access the Internet and allow you to grant temporary access, permanent access, or bar forever. If kerio does something similar that is fine.

A NAT firewall would be good too.

Thanks Bill, that was what I was looking for.

Thanks again to all - I now have ZoneAlarm merrily monitoring my activity.
