    Customize>Options>Personalized Menus and Toolbars (Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.6627))

The box 'Menus show recently used commands first' keeps coming back into play automatically each time I open Outlook, regardless of whether I deselect the option. Not only on the main window, but also within Contacts folders.

Do you have another Office application open when you set that? It does tend to be an all or nothing choice for Office applications.

Try setting it in another Office application after you've closed Outlook.

If you continue to have these problems with Outlook Contacts only, then try looking for a file called outcmd.dat. It contains your Outlook toolbar customisations. It will be in something like: Cocuments and Settings[username]Application DataMicrosoftOutlook. Delete it while Outlook is closed and it will regenerate the next time Outlook is opened. HTH
