    Number format codes (Excel 2002)

I need to display $123,432.14 as 123 (ie, in thousands) for charting purposes but don't want to round the numbers myself because I want to the cells to have the original numbers for calculation purposes.

In Number Format Codes XL Help says:
"To display 12,000 as 12 Use this code #, " but I don't know what that means. Someone please explain.

    Many thanks.

    Format -cells - Number tab
    Category custom enter (no quotes)
    "#,"

If already charted, dbl-click the axis
Number tab, Category custom enter (no quotes)
    "#,"
