Multiple Docs (2002)

I have a directory with ~20 procedures all separate files. Does any know if it is possible to link them somehow so you can print 1 or all?

Hi Dean:
What about just going to File/Open, selecting the documents (Ctrl+Click will select non contiguous files), & then going to the Tools menu (inside FileOpen) & selecting Print. Alternatively, after selecting the files you want to print, just right click & choose Print.

Thanks for your quick response. Is there some way to print multiple doc without each one opening before they print. Some procedures are reasonably large, so can take some time if I want to print them all by the time each one opens & closes, or is there some better way to manager multiple docs?

Hi Dean:
I don't know of a way to print the documents without them opening. Since one of the things that Word does before printing is to repaginate the document, I doubt it. They will automatically close after opening when using the steps that I mention (or if you select multiple documents in Windows Explorer, right click & choose Print).

After you first reboot, Word is somewhat slower to load than after it's in memory, but even a large file should only take seconds to open. I just tested opening a 365 page document with Word closed & it took 5 seconds to load Word & open the document on a 600MH Win98 machine. Although I have a very old (slow) printer, I would think that Word would be able to feed the information to the spool faster than the Printer could print.

Word typically adds a Print action to the registry so that when you right-click a .DOC file and choose Print, it will silently open the document in Word, print the document and close it again. If you don't want to see Word run, you can investigate the tricks used in this process (Windows Explorer>Folder Options>File Types>DOC>Advanced), but no matter how you slice it, Word will run. Unless of course, you print it from OpenOffice.org. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
