Internet Explorer 6.0 crashes (IE 6.0)

On a workstation Internet Explorer crashes, replying with the usual "IE explorer has encountered an error and needs to close". I can boot the PC in Safe mode and IE 6.0 works just fine. It just will not work after a normal boot. I have Norton Anti-Virus corporate edition with the latest updates. I have run Virus scan on the PC and none are detected.

I have tried using Start, Run, "msconfig" and opened this file. I opened only with System INI, WIN INI and disabled all others in Startup.

Does any one have any solutions to suggestions.

    What OS are you running?
How much RAM do you have?
Have you cleaned out your TIF folder?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    TESCPA--

Thanks for the good history--OS is one essential you left out. (This happens a lot on the IE/OE sections of the Lounge because there is no place that prompts the poster to list it). OS impacts IE Fixes significantly. First make sure you delete temporary internet files. Then I would run System File Checker (I don't know your OS but 98 on up has one). When you get the "IE will Close Now" error, you usually have the opportunity to click a link in the box for detail. That detail usually specifies a problem with a specific .dll. You also may be able to get detailed error information that will help fix this problem from Event Viewer--Start>Run>Eventvwr.msc>Stretch the Box>Look In>Application/System at the time of your error.

I have the info for running it and other steps for repairing IE listed below:

    Run SFC First; Here's How:

You may have a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that is causing problems. Try disabling these as shown in the attached screen shot and see if the problem goes away.

As a footnote to Mark's post, this dialog -- usually accessed from inside IE using Tools>Internet Options... -- also is available from the Start button, Settings, Control Panels. Hopefully that won't crash on you.
