    Photos as screensaver

I've done a fairly extensive search 'cos I was sure I'd seen this discussed previously but have found nothing. Also nothing from Google.

What I am after is free software that will allow me to use a series of still photos as a screensaver.

In control panel there is an option to use MY PICTURES as a slide show. You might try this out and see if you like it. It requires that all the pictures be in that folder.

Check out the software at Webshots. Free for personal use - not sure about business.

Thanks, Preston. I've checked CP and can't find that setting. I checked the obvious like "Display" and "Folder" settings and not so obvious like "Admin Tools" and "System". Can you point me in the right direction? TIA.

Thanks Joe. I've seen Webshots but it also loads Gator which then increases my network traffic. If all else fails I can always remove Gator, but the chances are the user is likely to pick it up again when they update Webshots.

I've not had anything remotely related to Gator at home with Webshots. Are you sure about that?

Er, no. I based that on observation. All PCs I've found with Gator also had Webshot.

As this will be a "controlled" install, I'll check for Gator first, I'll get it a go and report back. Thanks.

Looks like you were right, I've installed Webshot and run Ad-Aware and no Gator! Thanks a heap, I now have one solution and a puzzle as to where Gator came from. No, lets not start that discussion in this thread, I know there are a number of ways of picking it up, and others like it.

Looks like you got what you wanted, i.e. the free thing. However, just for your possible interest or someone else scanning the forums, there is a company called Midnight Blue that has some good software. Their Screen Saver Toolbox (SST) is excellent stuff. The basic version is $15 US and the Pro at $40 US.

    <big><big>Gator?</big></big>

I would avoid this like the plague. I spent a complete day a couple of weeks ago removing this junk from PCs on which "allegedly intelligent users" clicked on some link to download "Date Manager".

Sophos (the British AntiVirus company) treats it as a virus - App/Gator-A...

    Granville-

I have put in Webshots a lot and not found it to ever bring Gator--not to say it's 100% devoid of spyware, but in years running Hijack This, Pest Patrol, Spybot, and Adaware I've never found anything associated with Webshots or had any trouble with it at all--the Premium gives you a bigger selection of pictures but I find the free one to be searchable for some pretty good screensavers.

Thanks, SST Pro looks good. I'll pass it on to our Sales Dept with the suggestion they may be able to use it for their promos. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Ah Date Manager, that rings a bell. I'll have to back track to see if it fits the pattern of Gator.

    I think I may have said this once or six times in the past, but I'm happy to repeat it. Sophos rocks! <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23> <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

I should have mentioned when I recommended it that when I was still an employee of Kentucky Educational Television (KET) I recommended SST to the staff and they still use it to offer web viewers some samples of Kentucky scenery. If you'd like to pass along the link:

A KET Newsletter sample. See bottom left corner of the blue bar for screensavers.

    The KET "Entry" page.
