FTP disconnection

Greetings to all.
Can anyone tell me what may cause and ftp session to disconnect without completing the downloading of the files.

I assume the network traffic may cause it, could it also be the speed of traffic? any suggestions?

Re: FTP disconnection

Depends on a lot of things. Sometimes the modem settings. There are a couple of utilities out there that will resume downloads. Gozilla is one & Get Right is another. I've never used Get Right so I can't comment. Gozilla worked nice BUT it has advert.dll. In other words, it sends messages back to its server without telling you that keeps track of your surfing habits. They say that they do it for mass information (they don't care about your persnonal information as an individual) & to tailor banner ads to your tastes.

I mention this merely so you can make an informed choice. There are arguments pro & con, but there's an increasing number of freeware, shareware, & even full programs that collect information & transmit it back to a server.

Anyway, if it happens regularly (disconnect), call both your ISP (can help you set up DUN, let you know if they're having problems, or whatever) & call your phone company. If you're using a modem, "noise" on the line can cause disconnects.

www.zdnet.com, I believe, has both utilities (& there are others).

Hope this helps.

The free version of Get Right has the report-back-to-base Ads but, by popular demand, if you register up front, you can avoid installing that bit altogether.
