    Formatting in Merge v.2002

    I would like to create a merge document where the the individual's name would be underlined depending on the results of another field - (if "Contact Name" equals 'abc' then "DisplayName" should be underlined). I looked in the If...then...else feature of Merge, but it seems to only allow text, not formatting.

    Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks! Diana

    Hi Diana:
    You can use the IF field for formatting also. Try something like:

    { IF { MERGEFIELD ContactName } = abc "{ MERGEFIELD ContactName }" "{ MERGEFIELD ContactName }" }

    Note that you can apply direct formatting or a style character to the Mergefield to get the formatting that you want.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the IF statement Phil!

    There is still a problem though. The merge form has only two fields - Name and Company and I've added the IF statement to the Name field. When the documents merge to a New Document window, the Company is missing from all entries on the first page of nametags, but appears for the remaining entries in the document. Any idea why this is happening? Diana

    Hi Diana:
    I'm not sure. Could you post a screenshot of the field codes that you have in the main document? Also, what type of data source are you using?

    Hi Phil,
    You are not going to believe this.... The reason that the Company name was missing from page 1 and the rest of the document is because the names on page 1 didn't have a Company field! It just 'happened' that there were 8 names - the same as the number of labels on page 1. I thought it was a 'page' thing and not a 'name' thing. <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>

    The IF statement works beautifully! Diana
