    Web Commandbar always showing (2000)

Hi. This is just a minor thing, but it's really bugging me. I have a spreadsheet (EIS type with VBA modules, user forms etc.). One thing it does when opening is remove the Standard and Format commandbars and use a custom one (should be the only one visible). If I open it from File/Open, then this is fine, but if I open it using a custom menu button on the toolbar, then the Web commandbar always appears! I have tried placing Application.Commandbars("Web").Visible=False in all sorts of places, including in the Workbook_Open subroutine, but to no avail. When opened via the menu button, the Web commandbar always appears. Anyone have any ideas why? And if so, how to make it go away? Thanks.

Try Application.Commandbars("Web").Enabled=False, that should get rid of it. You should only need to do this once, for example from the Immediate window in the Visual Basic Editor.

Hah! As easy as that! Thanks, Hans. Not sure why though...... But it works, so thanks for removing my irritation!

Setting .Visible = False only hides the toolbar temporarily, Excel will make it visible again when it feels like it. But by setting .Enabled = False, you make the toolbar unavailable, it won't even be listed in the Tools | Customize dialog.

(Sadly, Office 2002 has an irritating tendency to display the Reviewing toolbar when you don't want it, ignoring the .Enabled = False setting.)

FWIW for me, this only ever happened when there were Hyperlinks or the Favorites folder involved. <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15>

You got it in one - the menu button invokes a hyperlink to open the required spreadsheet. So it's not just me then? Thank goodness for that! Strange thing is that I moved from one pc to another with (supposedly) the same setup. My original pc and Excel did NOT do this - but the new one does! The workings of Microsoft are strange indeed...... Thanks for your FWIW - made me feel better!

The issue may be the location of the hyperlinked file - although I'm not set up at the moment to verify that.
