Disclaimer doesn't appear with Word as editor (2002 SP2)

If I have Word as my E-mail Editor (I know, my boss uses it, not me), I have a problem viewing the disclaimer that our server puts on our messages as they leave. I send a message, get a reply back from the recipient, and view the message using the preview pane. My disclaimer appears along the top (several times, depending on the number of replies). If I open the message, I don't see any of my disclaimers at all. I just see the text of the email message. If I forward the message, the recipient gets to see all of the disclaimers before my reply.

If I don't use Word as my editor, I can view the message properly, delete the disclaimer, and all is right with the world (or at least with Outlook). Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't see my disclaimer with Word as my Editor?

    Thanks,
    Becky

It may have something to do with the disclaimer being added in Plain Text - as contrasted with the formatting that is part and parcel of Word's activities.

I figured as much. I think the disclaimer is added in MIME format (I'm gathering this from some KB articles on the the server people's website) Do you know of a way to force it to show (or even just delete automatically) the disclaimer? He (my boss) forwards me messages all the time with all those disclaimers on the top, and I can't talk him into turning off Word as his email editor. He likes that it shows him that he has words spelled wrong as he's typing.

    Thanks,
    Becky

Sorry no one has got back to you on this. In principle, since the text is always the same, it should be possible to go through the messages in VBA code and strip out the disclaimer. Let us hope that somehow a solution will surface.

What software is inserting the disclaimer? Apparently it isn't "TNEF-aware" (as, one would expect, custom built Exchange Server add-ons would be) and is inserting somewhere that Word does not believe is part of the message body. Perhaps if you poke around in Word, the disclaimer is considered to be an attachment or part of the (uneditable) message header? If it's just completely hidden, that's pretty bizarre.

Tumbleweed's MMS (server) is putting the disclaimer on the message before it leaves our firewall. When it comes back in, we can't see it with Word as the Email editor. It appears to be completely hidden, but it might be there and just hiding really well. Do you know where I could look? There appear to be no attachments to the message, but maybe it did put itself in the header. Do you know how I would look for that? I poked around in Tools - Options - Mail Format and played with just about every setting to see if I could make the silly thing appear, but no luck.

    Thanks,

I can't help you with Word as editor, I never use that configuration. However, to determine whether the message is in the MIME structure, you could ask someone with access to a server to scoop up the raw RFC 822 text file and send it back to you as a text attachment. (I could do it but only if we were to coordinate schedules very carefully, since normally I don't leave any mail on the server.)

Since my boss is the Network Admin, I'm guessing he's going to lose interest in this. When I told him what you said, he gave me this look like it was too much effort. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Thanks for the offer, though!
