Cant clear Saved Passwords IE 6.0 (6.0 XP SP1 )

Clear Passwords (in the Autocomplete box) sends IE into never-never land. I'd like to clear out my passwords. Any ideas?

It sounds like a problem with IE so re-installing it may help.

You can also use Protected Storage Pass View to list all autocomplete passwords and delete them.

Thanks Tony, but I prefer not to use freeware any more. I'm just too suspicious of everything I get off the net.

I believe this will do it; can anyone confirm?

In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftProtected Storage System ProviderusernameData
and then delete all the long-numbered sub-keys in the Data key. You'll have to enter all passwords again first time around. Backup the key first for peace of mind.

Hi Tony:
Holly ****. I didn't realize there was a utility to read encryped passwords. I just tried it out. I'll never save a password again (except for sites that I don't care if my identity is stolen).

Presumably these are sites where you sign in as "Mickey Mouse" with a password of "Donald Duck"?

Yeah. Would you believe that Walt Disney stole that from me a long time ago.

Go to contol panel, user accounts. Choose your account, in the next box, on the left, under related tasks, choose mangage my network passwords. Then remove any you wish.

Wow! Thank you for telling us about that program. I found multiple instances of my credit card number in that file. Scary!
