    time calcs (excel)

    can any one help ???? i need to take one time away from another and show the difference as a positive or a negative but so far i can only get the following 0:15 diff


    Calc for the answer =IF(D7>C7,D7-C7,C7-D7)

    D7 = 8:45
    C7= 9:00

    Excel doesn't support negative times or negative dates. You can use the formula you posted in one cell, and a formula to indicate whether the result is positive or negative, for example

    =IF(D7<C7,"-","+")

    or a variation on this.

    As Hans said, Excel does not allow negative time values. The formula below will give the answer in minutes (positive or negative):

    <pre>=(D7-C7)*24*60
    </pre>

    Excel does support negative dates and times if you use the 1904 date system (tools -options - Calculation(tab) - check "1904 date system"

    Ah, I always forget that. thanks for reminding me - again...

    I don't know if using the 1904 system is acceptable to the original poster, but it is good knowing the possibility exists.
