1. ## time calcs (excel)

can any one help ???? i need to take one time away from another and show the difference as a positive or a negative but so far i can only get the following 0:15 diff

D7 = 8:45
C7= 9:00

2. ## Re: time calcs (excel)

Excel doesn't support negative times or negative dates. You can use the formula you posted in one cell, and a formula to indicate whether the result is positive or negative, for example

=IF(D7<C7,"-","+")

or a variation on this.

thanks i will give it a go and see what happens

4. ## Re: time calcs (excel)

Excellent !!!!!!! Thank you for your help.....very much appreciated

5. ## Re: time calcs (excel)

As Hans said, Excel does not allow negative time values. The formula below will give the answer in minutes (positive or negative):

=(D7-C7)*24*60

6. ## Re: time calcs (excel)

Excel does support negative dates and times if you use the 1904 date system (tools -options - Calculation(tab) - check "1904 date system"

Ah, I always forget that. thanks for reminding me - again...

I don't know if using the 1904 system is acceptable to the original poster, but it is good knowing the possibility exists.
