Fixing Corrupt Tables? (XP)

    Hello,

My document (over 100 pages and no backup) is giving the error message as shown on attached screen-shot.

Please can you advise me a solution?

    Bob

If you don't know which table causes the problems, try the following:

To be on the safe side, make a copy of the problem document.

Open the copy.

Select (roughly) the first half of the document, up to a "logical" point (not in the middle of a table!)

Delete the selection.

Use File | Save As... to save the remainder under another name.

Close, then reopen the copy of the entire document.

Now select the part you didn't select the first time.

Delete the selection and save the remainder under another name.

You now have two documents, each containing half of the original document.

Hopefully, only one of them displays the error message when you open it.

By repeating the above steps, you should be able to pinpoint the corrupt table.

Then select this table, and try the repair suggested in the error message (Table | Convert table to text)[/list]If multiple parts of the document are corrupt, salvage as much of it as you can, and assemble a new document from these parts.

That's excellent. I'll experiment with that.
