Can not navigate to a specific site (IE 6)

A friend was at TicketMaster's site (www.ticketmaster.com) when his system "acted up" - the screen went white and he could not do anything further. Now when he tries to go to Ticketmaster's site, the page never loads. Finally the screen shows the explanation that the page could not be loaded. He can input any other page and go there without a problem. We disabled his firewall (Norton Personal Firewall) without effect. Then we downloaded and installed Opera - and unbelievably, we could not get to Ticketmaster from Opera. I have checked with other computers, and Ticketmaster's site is operational. We have deleted temporary internet files and cookies. His operating system is WIN 98 SE.

Trebor--

It could have been at a time when Ticketmaster was being hit beyond the capacity of their servers. Can your friend reach www.ticketmaster.com now? Other factors that might help might be listing it as a trusted site and if you have a firewall like Norton (NPF or NIS) listing it Options>Web Tab>Firewall as an accepted site. If this is new, then it doesn't suggest these would help. Running SFC in 98SE never hurts and may help

Hi SMBP,

No he still can not get to TicketMaster. I can on my computer so it is not the site. I listed it as a trusted site and also listed in NPF as an accepted site. I had run SFC before my posting to the lounge. I also ran SCANREG /Restore and went back a day on the registry. Still no luck. And the strange thing is that we get the same problem with a different browser - Opera.

yes we can (and probably will) do a repair installation of IE6 - but why won't Opera access the site?

Re: Can not navigate to a specific site (IE 6)

The reason I suggested an IE reinstall was because it's a Win98 machine and IE6 is not the native browser. Were it WinXP, the Opera results would definitely suggest a Repair Install .

Win98 may not be as logically consistent.

(As far as I can remember, Repair Installs don't exist in Win9x. )
Grüße

My friend just did a REPAIR on Internet Explorer - no luck. He still can not access the TicketMaster site.

Re: Can not navigate to a specific site (IE 6)

WIN 98 SE does allow a REPAIR of IE6 by going to ADD/REMOVE and selecting IE6. The options are to "repair Internet Explorer" or to "restore the previous Windows configuration". We did the REPAIR but no luck on accessing the Ticketmaster site.

Is ticketmaster.com listed exactly in NPF like the attached? Just curious.

Re: Can not navigate to a specific site (IE 6)

Sorry for the confusion: with WinXP you can do a Repair Install of the entire OS. I was thinking of the IE5 rollback as a Rollback - rather than a "Repair Install." (As you probably know, an OS Repair Install means that - although you have to reinstall all SPs and patches - you don't have to reinstall applications etc.)

It does seem strange that this appears to be just the Ticketmaster site. Have you tried looking at the Macromedia install and any other plug-ins (ActiveX/Java) that the Ticketmaster site may require?
Grüße

Not exactly - he is running NPF 2003? Which version do you have?

2002...but I imagine it should be similar.
Every site that I have listed in my WinME/IE6 'trusted zone' is also listed in my NPF2002 using those same 4 'permit' categories.

Have him remove any and all cookies that are related to this site. One may have been stepped on , on his first visit.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

We have deleted ALL cookies. We have also disabled the Norton Firewall - still no luck.

Unk--

Something I haven't figured out in this. Why is Opera also having the problem? If it were a firewall configuration would that explain Opera? Spybot will also clean certain cookies and products if they aren't checked for an exclude list. If Trebor's friend had Spybot, that would only matter if Ticket master had added some type of product it cleans and detects.
