    Excel Graph Questions? (XP)

    Hello,

    I'm trying to make a simple graph showing how two ratios should change over time.
    The attached screen-shot shows the years 2004 and 2008 and the corresponding ration percentage levels.

    I made the table & used the Chart Wizard to make the graph.

    I have 2 Questions:

    Q1: I set the cell property to a percentage with Zero decimal places so it look Ok in the table now, but not in the generated graph. How can I fix it in the graph as well?

    Q2: The graph below drawn in Powerpoint is what I'm trying to get, but the one above from Excel puts both the Ratio & Year on the X-Axis & draws 2 lines instead of 1.

    How can I make it understand what I need to get the graph right?

    Thanks.

    Bob.

    Is this what you are after?

    You would have to "draw" the arrows on in some way if you really wanted them. I set the formatting to only display the values you want since the major axis interval could not be setup to display only the values you listed otherwise.

    Dear Steve,

    That's fabulous, but how do I do it? I need Noddy and Bigears level instructions!

    Select the region A1:B3
    <table border=1><td></td><td align=center>A</td><td align=center>B</td><td align=center valign=bottom>1</td><td valign=bottom>Year</td><td valign=bottom>Ratio</td><td align=center valign=bottom>2</td><td align=right valign=bottom>2004</td><td align=right valign=bottom>0.2</td><td align=center valign=bottom>3</td><td align=right valign=bottom>2008</td><td align=right valign=bottom>0.9</td></table>

    [Chart wizard expects dependent (X-Axis) to be on left (or on top).]

    Insert - chart [or press "chart Wizard" button]
    Standard types (tab) - XY Scatter - choose lines and no markers
    <next>
    Select data is in "COLUMNS"
    <next>
    Titles (tab) [add desired titles]
    Gridlines (tab) uncheck all
    Legen (tab) uncheck "show legend"
    <finish>
    Dbl-click the "grey plot area", choose "None: for both Border and area <OK>
    Dbl-click the Y-axis:
    Patterns (tab)
    Axis ( I chose a higher weight)
    Major tick mark type: CROSS
    Scale (tab)
    Minimum:0
    Maximum:0.95
    Major unit: 0.2
    [Now if you want to "Hide" all but the 20% and 80% you need to change the format]
    Number (tab)
    Category: custom
    Enter in type (no quotes):
    "[=0.2]0%;[=0.8]0%;"
    [This will hide all numbers but 0,2 and 0.8 and display them as percentage with no decimals]
    <ok>
    Dbl-click the X-axis:
    Patterns (tab)
    Axis ( I chose a higher weight)
    Major tick mark type: CROSS
    Scale (tab)
    Minimum:2002
    Maximum:2009.5
    Major unit: 2
    [Now if you want to "Hide" all but the 2004 and 2008 you need to change the format]
    Number (tab)
    Category: custom
    Enter in type (no quotes):
    "[=2004]0;[=2008]0;"
    [This will hide all numbers but 2004 and 2008 and display them with no decimals]
    <ok>
    Dbl-click the line itself to change the color and the line weight (I made it the thickest) in the Patterns (Tab)

    You can select the X title and drag it to a different location instead of the center

    You made some good effort in typing all that and I just want to say - Thanks very much.
    It really did the business!
