    un-removable removable drive?

I've got a USB flash drive. Under win 2k, the 'unplug or eject hardware' tool usually does the trick, but sometimes and for no obvious-to-me reason says it can't be done.
Doing it nevertheless doesn't seem to damage anything. There are no open files from the drive concerned.
    What's going on?

    Hi John,
Do you have the drive selected in an Explorer window at the time? I've seen that cause problems with other removeable type devices.

No. To make sure, I might expand C:, or anything other than F:, the usb stick.
