S14g.* files on my hard drive

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

I have recently been getting files on my root folder (directory) that are called S14g, S14g.1, S14g.2 and so forth.

Their size ranges from 5KB to 39KB and the dates and times of their creation is also odd. For example, Today Jan. 9th, at 5:44 AM. I was sleeping dreaming about sailing the Pacific with a hard drive not infested with S14g files.

I did a Goggle and it did not return any results.

Anyone can tell me what are these files, should I keep them, can I remove them to CD-ROMs, or a floppy for their sizes are tiny.

Could it be some Norton Antivirus thing?

    Thanks for any information

Open Notepad, then drag one of the files into it from Windows Explorer. It may give you a clue or two.

I have done this particular procedure, and I got this. Any clues?

    Thanks again.

Is that with or without Word Wrap having a tick in front of it? Leif was, I presume, hoping that some text would show in the file (which discovery is often assisted by having WordWrap on)...

What's there in youir screen shot seems fairly text-free...

Have you ran Adware or Spybot to check for Spyware?

I guess I opened the file simply as prescribed by Leif, drag and drop, so word wrap might have taken effect, but again I did not see any text in there.

I did run SpyBot and Ad-Aware, so maybe I should check with Cowboy and see what he would suggest.

    Keep tabs on this thread.

Yes I do run both, SpyBot and Ad-Aware, to check for bad stuff, as also with antivirus stuff. I gather I can remove these files?

    <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

What about Spybot and Ad-Aware, are they producing these files?

I can't imagine me running these utilities at 5:44 AM in my sleep, I will install an infrared camera and see if I do sleep walk, but I am positive I don't.

    Any ideas?

Is there more to these file extensions then just S14g.1

They go in sequence, the first one is called S14g, then you will have S14g.1, and the S14g.2 and so on until S14g.9 and then S14g.a, all the way to S14g.v

The surprising thing is that they are fairly small, and I only got to see them when I deleted a folder via Windows Explorer and they poped up when I visited the root of C:

I was taken aback, first but then I looked at them and they did not make sens to me.

I Googled and nothing came up other than some items with S14g in their model numbers.

    So I posed the question.
