Firebird = Firefox & Thunderbird - New (Mozilla)

The Mozilla stand-alone browser is now called Firefox (formerly Firebird, formerly Phoenix). Both it and the Mozilla stand-alone e-mail client, Thunderbird, have new releases.

Firefox 0.8 - release notes & download choices
Thunderbird 0.5 - release notes & download choices
Note that new Firefox extensions and a new profile have to be installed for those upgrading their browser from Firebird or Mozilla.

For those using multiple e-mail addresses in Thunderbird 0.5, you can configure "smart detection" of the account you are replying from.

Other info is at http://www.mozilla.org/. (Note that the Thunderbird link above is the correct one - the one on the Mozilla.org page is incorrect.)

    unkamunka,

Well, I "ran" right over and downloaded Ffx 0.8. Now, I don't have a vertical scroll in the right. I can move up and down with my mouse wheel, arrow keys, etc., but no quick grab on the slider. Also, I don't have any idea where I am in long screens.

I don't see any settings in tools:Options or Advanced Preferences that would control this.

Some questions: Have you installed into a new profile? Are you using the default theme? (Themes must be specifically designated for Firefox.) Are you using new extensions - specifically designed for Firefox?

If you have any difficulties in migrating your previous preferences, please post back.

    Unkamunka,

Well, looky here. <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29> I had followed all the instructions (like disabling plugins in Firebird before installing Firefox), used all the defaults in the installation, and got everything transferred from Firebird to the new Firefox. (except the vertical slider on the right.)

From your suggestion, I opened a new profile. (Didn't have my settings in it, naturally.) The new profile opened Firefox with the slider present. Then I deleted the new profile, to use the default (since I'm the only one using this computer). And there it is! Thanks!
