    Missing images (Outlook 2003)

I am receiving HTML messages from one sender who is listed as a "Save Sender". Often I get the HTML text but no image. The image is represented only by a small red X in a small box in the upper left of a frame where I would expect the image to be. I get HTML mail with images from other without this problem.

If you View>Source on the message, does the SRC attribute of the dysfunctional IMG tag reference a URL or a "cid:....." embedded data source?

It points to src="file:///C:/DOCUME~1/JOHANN~1.O'T/LOCALS~1/Temp/msoclip1/08/clip_image002.jpg" and not a cid. There in lies the problem, I think.

I am having the same problem. The SRC attribute is a valid URL (I tested it).

Is there perhaps some setting in Outlook similar to the "Show image download placeholders" in IE? The images in these same messages display correctly on a different computer in our home network.

    Many thanks,

In Outlook 2003, if Outlook is blocking the images as a security measure, you should be able to right-click and download images. If that is not an option, meaning Outlook has done all it can to retrieve the image, I'd have to go digging in the menus to see whether this has its own setting in Outlook or is governed by the box in IE's advanced settings tab (Multimedia -> Show Pictures).

    Re: Missing images (Outlook 2003)

As it turns out, I think that my problem was totally unrelated to Outlook, IE or any other software on my computer.

The mail account that I was pop'ing mail from was at capacity. As soon as I cleared out the mailbox, voila!, images in messages appeared again.

This was a purely serendipitous discovery. I cannot claim any technical thought process of any kind <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>.
