    Name Manager beta (97, 2000,xp,2003)

    Hi All,

I've been working on version 3 of the Name Manager.

Would anyone be so kind to have a look at the current version, available from:

    http://www.jkp-ads.com/NameManager.zip

I specifically need opinions about the userform's appearance. Any suggestions on improvements are very welcome.

    Could you be more specific?

In all My Excel versions, the form shows up when I start the NM (Tools, Name Manager).

Re: Name Manager beta (97, 2000,xp,2003)

    Hi Jan,

Thanks for a great utility. Prior to installing 3.0 beta, I have been using version 2.1

I am a very simple user of your Name Manager add-in. I mostly use it to rename, goto and delete names. I like the new userform, especially the minimize button. I miss the Goto button being available in the "less" screen as I tend to turn this on & off a lot.

Overall I think the 3.0 changes are an improvement. I found the userform easier to use & I will be sticking with version 3.0 instead of reverting to 2.1

    Regards,

    Matthew

    Thanks for your comments.

As a question to the group:

I am contemplating to change the appearance of the buttons by putting icons on top of them instead of text.

What are your opinions about that please?

    Jan Karel,

The new version looks good. I haven't found the bugs yet <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15> but I noticed that "More" and "Less" have not been translated into Danish, French, Portuguese and Swedish.

About icons: unless you can find or design icons that very clearly indicate the function of the button, I would stick with text captions. Icons would save you the hassle of translating all the captions, though...

    Hi Hans,

    Thanks for looking.

Indeed some items still have to be translated, they have been added after I received most translations.

I agree with you on the icons. Getting them to be easily recognized is going to be the hardest part. I too dislike having to point at a button and read its tooltip to know what it is for.

    A contest then:

Whoever can deliver icons that fit the buttons on the Name Manager will receive a free version <g>. And credits in the manual that nobody reads, of course.

    Hi, back again.

I have changed the appearance again. I used icons on the buttons, instead of texts in this version:

    Jan Karel,

I did have to look at the tooltips, but on the other hand, the buttons will become familiar with use. One remark: where possible, your icons should have a transparent background. I am not a graphics expert, but there are enough of those in the Lounge. The attached screenshot shows what the icons look like on my Windows XP (Home) system.

Thanks Hans. I'll see what I can do about the transparent bit.

    Hi everyone,

I have fixed the appearance of the buttons, added an updated manual and added the translations file (should you want the name manager in your language, please take time to translate the texts in the file and send it to me).

Download from the link at the top message in this thread.

    Thanks.

I did discover a tiny bug that caused the Name Manager to forget what language one had selected. Fixed now.
