    Removing Outlook (Office XP)

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to remove Outlook? Tried Add/Remove Programs but couldn't figure out how to do it via that route: all it seemed to allow me to do was install Office components, not make any deletions. Tried Windows Explorer just now, found the .exe file, but the warning made me nervous about deleting it and I wasn't sure if that would get rid of all the bits.

I'm not using it, just Outlook Express, for now and want to free up the disk space - and stop it from starting up each time I boot up.

    Thanks.

If you are using XP OS, YMMV from the 2000 menus which follow: Control Panel | Add/Remove programs | Microsoft Office | Change | Add/Remove Features.

    John,

Thanks for suggestion. I tried again, following your route, but here' s what happened: a click on Add/Remove Features" led to "Features to Install"; highlighted Outlook and clicked on only possible choice of "Update" (other choices were "Back" and "Cancel"). Clicking on Update did just that, updated my installation of Outlook successfully! Nowhere in my choices could I find one to remove the program!

On the initial screen (Add/Remove Programs), there is an option to remove Office XP Professional, but I'm afraid to choose it: it seems to remove the whole suite.

Any further suggestions? My OS is Windows XP with all the various patches on it.

    Hopefully,

    Linda

Since I don't want to remove anything, I'm not going to test through completion, but I think that you select Change | Add or Remove Features, and then in the drop-down for Outlook, select the "Red X" for Unavailable.

    Hi John,

Aha! Tried again as I had never seen an X for Unavailable in my previous attempts. I had been clicking on the + sign to the left of MS Outlook. This time, I clicked on the little hard drive icon and got the drop down with the Unavailable and X on it. Clicking on it and then Next did the trick: Outlook has been removed!!

Thanks so much for trying again. Really appreciate your time and advice.
