Wierd Acrobat Reader problem (W98 Acrobat Reader 6.0)

I have a friend with a wierd problem running Acrobat Reader. He downloaded and installed the Reader Version 6, but when he attempts to open a PDF document he gets one of two conditions:

    1. You see the Acrobat title bar and an outline of the window, but there is nothing inside the window, i.e. you're looking right through it and seeing the desktop.

    2. You see Acrobat open up in the normal fashion, but it appears with a grey background and no document loaded.

    Any suggestions?

Did he uninstall the older version of Acrobat Reader before the install of Adobe Reader 6.0?

The new version is Adobe Reader and NOT Acrobat Reader.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Chuck, I would advise your friend to try a simple but reliable troubleshooting method given this information: remove the app, reboot, and reinstall. See if the problem persists after this. Many times, a problem with a particular application can be resolved by removing and reinstalling.

Something else to consider is the driver for the video adapter. If it is not current, upgrade it as part of the troubleshooting process. Eliminate as many variables as you can, including any startup applications/utilities as you can think of.

    THanks Mark,

I'll have him give it a shot.
