Find my Files Please (Netscape 7.x)

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

Can anyone point me to the right spot on a hard drive where Netscape 7.x will have the most current files?

I checked under Documents and Settings, but could not find the files that would contain the e-mail I received 3 minutes before I did the check.

It seems that Netscape is hiding the files in different locations...

    Thanks in advance.

It all depends on how you <img src=/S/cop.gif border=0 alt=cop width=15 height=24>configured your Netscape installation. If you enter

    [path of Netscape executable] -p

under Start|Run, that should show you the name of your Profile - which should also be the name of the top folder where your settings are stored. You might try looking in Windows Explorer for that folder (and its sub-folders).

If, for some reason using "p" as your switch doesn't work, try "profile manager".

    Should I put the -p switch in the <font color=blue>"</font color=blue> and <font color=blue>"</font color=blue> pair, or outside it?

I tried in both cases, and it told me that it could not do it. Error message attached.

    Thanks a Million <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15>

Re: Find my Files Please (Netscape 7.x)

One low tech message is to send yourself an email (with little or nothing else running). Then use Windows Find files & folders to find any files that have been modified within the last day (at least in my Win98 I can't search for a more recent time period). Then sort the list by date/time modified & see if anything looks familiar.
    Hope this helps,

I tried this approch, and did not get too far.

The Netscape message database will not change the date that you can see when in Windows Explorer. I tried to use Cleansweep to see where things get installed, and again, nothing as well.

My friend got an e-mail message from Netscape Technical Support and the path was in this message.

Now we can't find the message. Darn it!!!

    Thanks

Edited by Phil Rabichow to add the quote.
    Hi Wassim:
<hr>The Netscape message database will not change the date that you can see when in Windows Explorer.<hr>
I find that hard to believe. I still use NS 4.75, but every time I open Messenger up, the time stamp on many email files change. If you press Alt,E,E (Edit/Preferences), one of the tabs lets you select where to store your mail. Even if you can't find it, NS has two files for each email folder. One has an .smn extension & is a summary file...these can be rebuilt. The other has no extension & corresponds to Inbox, Sent, etc.

See the attached picture & note that several have today's time stamp.

Re: Find my Files Please (Netscape 7.x)

I've been offline for a few days, but if you <img src=/S/eyeout.gif border=0 alt=eyeout width=15 height=15> VERY closely at my previous post, you'll see that there's a space between the end of the Netscape path and the dash before the "p". So, leave your double quotes where they are and put a space before the

    -p

after them. That should resolve the mystery.

Re: Find my Files Please (Netscape 7.x)

I am a user of Netscape 7.1. i use XP on my PC and Win98 on my laptop. You mail files are located in C:WINDOWSApplication DataMozillaProfilesdefault"xxxx.slt" The part in quotes is an slt folder. Look for mail and all folders should be there with NO extension.

In XP they are located in windows /Documentsand Settings/Mozilla....... Seach for *.slt and you will will find them.

There is a very good newsgroup for Netscape 7.1 It is: secnews.netscape.com

    Good luck
