How to delete the digit '1' (XP)

    Hello,

Please have a look at the attached file.
There's a mysterious "1" on the left axis.

How can I get rid of it?

    Thanks.

    Bob.

The chart in your workbook is based on data in another workbook, so we can't do much with it as it is.

However, you should switch the row/column orientation. There are buttons for this on the Chart toolbar, and you can also specify it in the Chart | Source Data dialog. Experiment!

The 1 is the category. You gave excel no category list so it just used numbers 1 - whatever. You only have 1 category hence "1" is its name.
dbl-click the axis and patterns(tab) - tick mark labels - select "none"

<!profile=DaveA>DaveA<!/profile> pointed out a good online Excel tutorial.

Unit 3 is "Charting, Printing and Page Setup"
    and contains lessons on:
    Lesson 15: Creating a Chart
Lesson 16: Moving, Resizing, and Deleting Charts
    Lesson 17: Editing Charts
    Lesson 18: Formatting a Chart

Registration is required (login name and password, email is requested but NOT required), but is <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> and the lessons seemed like they might help you out.

A quick and dirty way of fixing this is to drag an empty default (ie white opaque fill) text box over the unwanted character, format it as no lines, and group it with the chart.
Unsubtle, but does the job <grin>
