Making Folders

Loungers

What is the fastest way to make a folder in Windows Explorer?

I some times get files called:

Baby
Cap
Software
Bag

and I need to make folders for Baby, Cap, Software, and Bag. Oh BTW these words are examples and they could be just about any word in any dictionary...

Is there a shortcut key to make a folder at your current folder?

Thanks

Highlight the Folder you want to make the sub-folders in,,click on "File","New" and then "Folder in the toolbar, and then type the name you wish to use.

You do have to highlight in the left pane the folder under which you want to create another. You can save a click or two if you: right-click in the right pane, then type the letter W followed by the letter F.

W and F, I think I can work that.

I was doing the process Cowboydawg talked about, and its fast. But once you are faced with making 100s of folders, I thought of writing a macro at first. But then I thought maybe there is a Windows based solution. It had to be out there.

Thanks again.

Boy Wassim, if you're faced with creating 100s of folders at a clip, I guess mebbe you SHOULD look for a more automated solution. It so happens I use a program called QuicKeys and I'm still using Version 1 since it's kinda pricey. I'm sure there are other solutions out there.

Re: Making Folders

I once knew a registry hack that would add the "New Folder" option to the context menu. Problem with it was, the name was hard-coded, so when you used it you would end up with NewFolder in the Explorer tree.

Have you considered using a batch file to create massive amounts of folders? One thing I can think of is using a pair of BAT files: one contains a list of names, and the other file reads those names as environmental variables. The actual execution file then loops until it exhausts all the names you listed.

It might sound complicated, but it's really not. You can do all kinds of tricks with batch files and they execute lightning fast.
