Syncing MobilePhone to Palm/Outlook Cal & Contacts

In a couple of months I plan to upgrade my mobile phone; anyone have any experience with syncing appointments and contacts to mobile phones? I have none. What phones, what software, what hardware, and what can you tell me about your experience with this?

I have used the Siemens software. I find it a pain espcially if you have more paople in your outlook than space in your phone.

A lot of it depends on your phone and provider. Verizon offers a "Mobile Office Toolkit" for many of their phones and I highly recommend that you use it instead of other offerings. It is very stable in my experience and does exactly what you are seeking to accomplish. The package comes with the data cable for your specific model of phone.

Alternately, you can use software from FutureDial to accomplish some of this. For many phones, you can purchase the data cable at Radio Shack.

There is also a freeware program called BitPim that works with some phones, but I have had a lot of issues with it. It's very beta, IMHO, although it does work well when it does its thing. I think of it as more for managing ringtones and other things on newer phones, but on my mobile (an LG VX6000) I can simply email myself ringtones and pictures.

A final resource I can think for you to check is RPI Wireless. Many many data cables and software last time I looked, but at the moment their site appears to be down.

Some phone are Palm-based, so you could, if you don't mind holding a somewhat larger device up to your head, consolidate functionality.

Example: Handspring Treo 600 (GSM/GPRS model: AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile; CDMA model: Sprint)

Take a look at the Treo 600. I've just upgraded from a Palm m105 which synchronised seamlessly with Outlook including email. The Treo's bundled software makes it a doddle and has improved functionality especially if you download the free updater from the Palm site (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/). There's also a utility Beyond Contacts by DataViz which allows fuller Outlook field transfer and their excellent Documents to Go.
And yes, I know how long ago you posted ... just thought others might like the info. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>
