    Note pad (Windows XP)

    Hello everyone:

Can anyone advise me on the following:

Over the weekend I formatted my system, and installed most of the software applications, I then went to tweak manager (Winguides.com), and tweaked the registry to my specifications; everything appears fine.

However, the note pad is not in the appropriate area, which is usually between the calculator, and paint.
does any know how I can resolve this problem.

Also, I update the windows update, but I was not able to install most of updates that I previously had, does anyone know how I can resolve this situation, I do have the names of the updates.

    Much appreciated.

Have you tried to right click on notepad and click on "sort by name"?

    Updates.
What are the updates? Some as you probably know will only install singly and not part of a multi update. Some of the updates are "rollup" updates that include a group of prior updates all at once.

    Re: Note pad (Windows XP)

    Hello Viking33:

I don't see note pad on my desktop, nor is it in the area of Accessories, note pad is usually located under Systems Tools.

As for updates, the updates that I am inquiring about are the updates from last year, and the update that was sent out by Microsoft last week. I do believe that SMBP, posted a site in one of his post, however, I cannot seem to find the actual post.

    Thanks for your support viking.

    dillon65,

The notepad I'm talking about is at Start>Programs>accessories. you should see it about half way down the list between Address Book & Paint.

If you go to WIndows Update, you can click on "view Installation History" OR Windows Update catalog to see all available updates, hotfixes & patches for any version of Windows.

    Re: Note pad (Windows XP)

    Notepad:

    1) Notepad is found in C:WindowsNotepad. If for some reason it isn't in it's usual place on the All Programs>Accessories menu, you can get it back there if you want, by right clicking the shortcut to the desktop and right click-dragging it over to the start menu or wherever else and pin it to start if that's what you want. Put it anywhere you want. Actually the Start Menu is for comfort and convenience but it's entirely unnecessary--one of its best features. If you want notepad back there in it's usual gui nest in Accessories, you can do it, but you don't need to go there or see it there to use it. In fact, that just takes up extra time to go and click it there every time you want it.
    2) You can bring up the run box or the activated address bar (rt. click taskbar>toolbars>address bar) which doubles as a run box and type in "notepad." That brings up Notepad.
    3) You can right click the desktop>New>Text Document. That brings up Notepad.
    3) You can Add Notepad to the rightclick context menu.
    4) I suppose if you can't drag the shortcut directly to the All Programs Menu, you could drag it to Cocuments and SettingsAll UsersStartMenuPrograms by rightclicking the Start Menu and dragging it to Explorer All Users which takes you to All UsersStart MenuPrograms. Another way is to rt. click Start>Open Explorer All Users>Double Click the Programs folder in the right pane, and drag it to accessories there to add it.

    Update Lists

    1) With Window's Update>Catelogue or Installation History as Bob says also see Post 343197.
    2) Lists of Updates, Notification by Microsoft, and Search for Updates: Posts 343225 and 330435 and 331754.

    Dilon--

This may also be of help with a couple simple clicks, although the methods above will allow you to put notepad anywhere or restore it to its default loacations. See Kelly's Tweaks Line 309 Left: Restore Accessories Start Menu All Programs How have you done since the OP?

    Hello SMBP:

I was a bit late in receiving your posted information, I did try the restore, however, I must admit that I am too much of a perfectionist, and I did a clean install.

In every mistake there is always an important lesson!

    Much appreciated always!
