    Linking/Referencing Text in a Document (XP)

    I have a Word XP document consisting of several pages that must be filled out when a new student enrolls. Currently, I have the document set up with form fields in which to enter the data. My problem is that much of the data is repetitive. I know there MUST be a simple way to reference the first place the particular information is entered and have Word automatically insert that same data at each point that it must appear. I've fiddled with bookmarks, hyperlinks and field codes to no avail. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong.

    Can anyone lend me your wisdom?

    You have two practical choices:
    1. Select the text that you wish repeated.
    2. Bookmark it (e.g. give it the name bmk1).
    3. Where you want it inserted press Ctrl+F9 & type REF bookmarkname (where bookmarkname is the name you used in Step 2. It will look like this.

    {REF bmk1}

    1. Select the text that you wish repeated.
    2. Right click & drag it to where you want it to appear.
    3. From the resultant context menu, choose Link here.

    One other thing. Since it's a form, double click the form field that you want repeated & check the box that says "Calculate on exit".

    Cheers,

    One small addition to Phil's advice.

    Formfields already have associated bookmarks, If you go to the properties for each formfield you can change the bookmark to something you will remember and use that, rather than inserting a new bookmark. Have a look at replies to post 335368 for an example.
