    Spell Checking a locked form

    We have several locked forms that our users fill in and submit to various departments within our company. I am trying to figure out how the user can spell check the form once they have input information into the fields; however the spell check feature is apparently disabled when the form is locked. Is this just something they won't be able to do, or does anyone know of a work around?

    Re: Spell Checking a locked form

    Try this macro - we found it on WOPR a while ago and our firm uses it religiously:

    Sub SpellCheckFields()
    '
    ' Unprotects form, runs spellcheck and reprotects form without losing field information
    ' Found on <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com>http://www.wopr.com</A>
    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    ActiveDocument.Unprotect _
    Password:=""
    Selection.WholeStory
    Selection.LanguageID = wdEnglishUS
    Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
    ActiveDocument.CheckSpelling
    ActiveDocument.Protect _
    Password:="", NoReset:=True, _
    Type:=wdAllowOnlyFormFields
    End Sub

    Re: Spell Checking a locked form

    Hello,

    thanks for the macro idea. I may use it. However, if the macro seems a bit heavy handed and if you can divide the form (such as a memo template) into sections (using section breaks, continuous), you can lock some sections (Using fields to fill out the form bits) and then unlock other sections (such as where the user can type his/her message), you can use section breaks. Spell check will work in those unprotected sections. HTH - Gene

    Thank you melis415 - the macro did exactly what I needed to do. Thank you also geneword - don't know if that suggestion would work in this particular case, but I will remember it for the future.

    Re: Spell Checking a locked form

    Hi,

    There's a much nicer way of doing this.

    Unprotecting, checking and reprotecting may pick up errors in the protected text, and leaves the form vulnerable.

    There's a better way in <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm>the MVPS site</A>. This spell checks just form fields, and text in unprotected sections of a form field.

    Check out <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wrd&Number=11298&page=& view=&sb=&vc=1#Post11298>this thread</A> as well.
