Microsoft Office Hyperlink Opens New IE Window (6.0.2800.1106)

After following a hyperlink in Microsoft Office 2002 (at least Word, Excel and Front Page), IE opens in a new window. We prefer to cause IE to open the hyperlink in an existing open window, since the user is logged in to our Plumtree Portal in that IE session. When the Office hyperlink opens, the user is either taken to a log in screen for the portal or to an error screen.

Hyperlinks in Outlook messages function correctly, as do links in a web page in the same IE session.

Is there a way to control this behavior in Word/Excel (and similar programs)?

    Hi Bob:
Go to Start/Settings/Folder Options/File Types.../Scroll to Microsoft Word Document/click Edit & check the box "Browse in same window".
    Cheers,

Also try the setting in IE, Tools>Internet Options...>Advanced tab>Browsing section>Reuse windows for launching shortcuts
