Links Folder in Favorites (Win98/ME and IE6)

Having organized my favorites in folders to my liking, I right-clicked and deleted the LINKS folder in Favorites. IE allowed me to do so; but on restarting IE, the Links folder reappears -- empty of course. Sooo, I followed the Organize Favorites options and deleted it again, and again it reappeared when I restarted IE

Why won't this folder delete? Can I get rid of it if I crack the registry or delete some system file?

This has been around since day one.
I put it to use by adding the sites that I use the MOST, and have it displayed just to right of the "Address" pane.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

One other option is to rename it to

    '

This does save screen real estate. (You may have to edit your registry as well.)
