    Desktop Icon Labels

Is it possible to display the full label for desktop icons? e.g. "My Desktop icon label" rather than "My Desktop ic........"

    Thanks in advance

Only by shrinking the font size in Display Properties, I'm afraid. However, you may be able to find an add-in that would do that for you, there are utilities to make the text background transparent for example. Just nothing built into Windows itself.

I don't have a Win 2000 machine to look at right now, but take a look at Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced to see if you have a screen like this. You can twiddle around with the width and sometimes get the result you want. It may not be to your liking if you have to make the width number TOO large, but it's worth a look-see.

Thanks Al for getting me to look more closely at this advanced tab for tweaking.

S.T.-- you may get some help from this tweak I learned from Kelly:

Kelly's Tweaks Line 121 Right: Change Icon Wrap to One Line on the Desktop

See what it does for you. Kelly's tweaks are very safe regedits are VB scripts she has tested extensively often with a number of others. This one is a vbs so Norton or the other AVs are going to detect it as a "malicious script" as it will most or all vbscripts but since you controlled the download and know the source you can run it once very safely. None of Kelly's scripts is going to harm you or her regedits and she usually has a reversal handy. Let me know if you get this done.

    Something to consider...

<big>ANY</big> registry edit can be potentially dangerous. I agree with you that Kelly's are generally safe, but safety is relative to the system that these modifications are being implemented on. I liken it to a knee-surgery patient: If your knee has had problems in the past that were surgically corrected, you are more prone to doing damage if you stress it in the future.

Fortunately, with Windows, you can always build the OS over again and get brand new knees. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
