Re: European Tour Logic Puzzle by Al Perlman

Though I haven't solved the puzzle yet, I have produced a worksheet that will assist in solving the puzzle. The worksheet is already formatted to print on one sheet of paper. In a typical logic problem such as this one, a chart helps keep things organized and you can visually see the "process of elimination" at work. This is a real challenger.

Thanks for a good puzzle...

Wow - great spreadsheet ricky, much better than my version . However, I think that you need to put in a little grid about the film types as that does help with some eliminations.

Ok, here is what I have so far using Ricky's spreadsheet. I've filled in Info 1 to 5 on separate sheets so you can see what changes with each new piece of info. There are also a few 'other' bits of info that don't fit in any squares.

First puzzle that's been posted that's actually posed a challenge. I'm still playing with it, so don't think a lack of responses means a lack of interest.

Re: European Tour Logic Puzzle by Al Perlman

It took me the good part of a Saturday to solve it (the way to solve it was "easy", it was carrying out the "solution" that was time-consuming), so I expected it to take a little while.

It is good to hear though, that there is interest in it. I wasn't worried (yet) that no-one cared

I showed the solution to my daughter and told her she could take it into school, and if the teacher asked how she had solved it, that she should be "truthful" and tell the teacher that she brought it home and programmed it into her "special problem calculator" and it gave her the answer. I don't think she needed to be completely honest and say that her dad was her "special problem calculator".

You List is "almost there"
You failed on Item # 21 "The PR director and the high school principal are the same sex." In your list they are not.

So far we have 1 attempted answer that met 20 out of the 21 clues (but all the other constraints)

I printed it and handed it off to family members. So far, the 7th grader looks to be making the most progress.

Why can't we just delete constraint #21?

Re: European Tour Logic Puzzle by Al Perlman

Because then there would be multiple correctanswers.

Yours would be correct if #21 said they were of the opposite sex, but we are looking for the "same sex" answer.

Remember, if anyone posts the same problem with 21 switched, you have it complete!
